Director of Nutrition and WIC

DescriptionReports to Executive Director and is responsible for the development and daily operations of nutrition services at Brookside and the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program at Brookside, and Martha Eliot Health Centers, as well as Brighton and Roslindale neighborhoods.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Indicate key areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position.
These items should be evaluated throughout the year and included in the written annual evaluation.
1.
Oversees daily operations of Nutrition, and WIC programs including program planning, productivity, outreach, screening, check and vendor procedures and effectiveness of service.
Plans, coordinates, and supervises nutrition activities at all sites.
2.
Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates nutrition treatment and supportstaffs at all sites.
3.
Develops and implements outreach plan with community agencies to seek referrals; serves as nutrition resource to some.
4.
Writes WIC grant and develops proposals other nutrition services.
Negotiates final contract.
Participates in writing other center grants, which incorporate nutrition services.
5.
Prepares and monitors program budgets with Executive Director.
6.
Submits service delivery and other reports to State Department of Public Health WIC office and other grantors as required, concerning statistical and financial information.
Organizes and maintains records for State and Federal audits as specified in federal regulations.
Lack of attention to these matters could jeopardize future funding.
7.
Attends WIC/Nutrition Director meetings (State-wide) for information on program regulations and future legislation and policy.
8.
Develops educational materials and educates clients regarding nutritional issues.
Chairs the center-wide patient health education committee and plans center-wide educational activities and patient education materials.
9.
Provides nutrition counseling for WIC participants and therapeutic nutrition patients.
10.
Coordinates nutrition program with other services at all WIC sites.
11.
Screens, assists, selects, and supervises the dietetic interns and nutrition students at all sites12.

Qualifications:
(MUST be realistic, neither overstated nor understated, and related to the essential functions of the job.

At least two to three years experience in community nutrition and demonstrated leadership and management skills.
4.
Current knowledge of therapeutic, maternal, and pediatric nutrition.
Fluency in Spanish preferred.

Strong interpersonal skills.
Incumbent has contact with wide range of people, representatives of community agencies, Brookside management staff, Grants and Contracts at BWH, State Department of Public Health, USDA representatives, medical providers including physicians and family nurse practitioners, and representatives of other state and professional organizations involved in nutrition issues.

Leadership, supervisory, and management abilities.

Good basic math skills, necessary for reports, state issued data, needs assessment, etc.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
