This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-6. At the GS-5 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-6. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher-level work, and availability of funds. Major duties and responsibilities include:
Examines vouchers, invoices, claims, and other requests for payment of healthcare services delivered to patients and family members Analyzes each voucher to determine propriety of payment to include required certifications, compliance with contract provisions, price agreements, and/or other directive material Resolves discrepancies and/or problems that are associated with the voucher certification process Prepares correspondence to all parties involved, including letters transmitting adverse decisions or requests for additional information Examines accounts and/or resolves difficult reconciliations requiring an analysis of adjustments and corrective entries in the account Performs ancillary preparatory components of other health insurance resolution responsibilities, such as manually calculating and pro-rating proper distribution of payments Utilizes knowledge of financial and accounting systems and regulations Performs other related duties as assigned Work Schedule:

SPECIALIZED
Experience:
At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-4) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience includes reviewing/examining and correcting documents to ensure accuracy; reviewing invoices, claims and other requests of payment and reimbursement for goods and services; using office automation software/hardware to perform clerical duties associated with claims processing.NOTE:
Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. OR EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION:
Successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE:
Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. OR COMBINATION:
Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE:

At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience includes examining invoices, vouchers, claims and other requests of payment for accuracy of documentation; processing and assembling vouchers and supporting documentation; assisting with submission of various reports for vouchers, payments etc.; reviewing/examining and correcting documents to ensure replenishments and deposits; and processing claims, and travel payments. NOTE:
Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. There is no education substitution at the GS-6 grade level. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position:

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
