Social Work Associate

The Social Work Associate (SWA) for the Huntington House Program performs assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, outstanding customer service, and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving veterans. The SWA performs a wide variety of duties in support of professional social workers, providing assistance and services as prescribed for individual cases by social workers in conjunction with their professional treatment. Assignments include interviewing patients and others for informational or service purposes; handling selected referrals to social and health agencies; obtaining and compiling data and similar types of work. The SWA actively supports the team concept and functions as a team player and contributes to team initiatives and continuously strives to improve the effectiveness of the team(s) to which assigned. The Huntington House Social Work Associate is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Huntington House lodging program, which includes responding to CPRS consults, assigning rooms to guests and managing daily census, answering telephone and walk-in inquiries, resolving patient complaints in a professional manner, entering and monitoring facility work orders. The SWA will be expected to communicate with supervisor about issues of patient safety or building emergencies. Responsible for ensuring guests comply with rules of the program and adhere to eligibility guidelines. SWA will monitor and re-order supplies needed to ensure ongoing operations of the program and will assist program coordinator with process improvement projects as needed. The Huntington House SWA will also serve as a timekeeper for Social Work Service at VA Boston. Work Schedule:

This position is an AFGE Bargaining Unit position. This position is covered by locality-based comparability pay. Travel and relocation expenses are not authorized. Selectee may be required to work at any Boston Healthcare System campus, as needed. Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in major fields of study such as:
social welfare, sociology, psychology, public administration, philosophy, education, anthropology, history, economics and/or English.
Experience:
You must have two years of experience as a social welfare worker or social work assistant in a voluntary, public, social, or health agency with minimum of 1 year in a medical setting. Applicants must have had 1 year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the next lower grade in the Federal service equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-7 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note:
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements:
The duties and responsibilities of the position require mobility between various rooms within the Huntington House and between the Huntington House and various other hospital buildings. The SWA must be composed at all times while providing customer service to veterans and their families during their emotional and/or physical stress. Average physical ability, dexterity, and strength are required to perform the work. This includes preparation for programs, occasional moving/lifting of equipment, (100 cup coffee pot, boxes of donated items, up to 40 pounds etc.), assisting guest with luggage. Although some of the work is sedentary, the employee will be walking, standing, bending, and carrying some light to heavy items. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
