Supervisory Social Worker

The incumbent supervises 15 employees in Social Work Service based at the JP, WR, and Brockton Campuses, and Causeway and LO clinics. This includes 1.0 GS 11, 12.5 Gs12, 1.0 GS 8 and 0.5 GS 8. The position oversees staff in the following programs:
Primary Care, Home Based Primary Care, Huntington House, Dialysis, PATC, Oncology/HIV clinic, and Women's Health. This Social Worker is a key member of the Social Work Professional Practice Council and Social Work Service Management Team. The incumbent has a lead role in implementation and spread of Whole Health at VA Boston and leads system redesign efforts within the teams and service. The incumbent is responsible for the professional and administrative management of the social workers in the multiple care lines across multiple sites:
Boston, Brockton, West Roxbury, and Causeway St. The incumbent is licensed at the advanced practice level and provides required supervision for subordinate staff to qualify for licensure. Incumbent is responsible for the development and management of the Social Work Peer Review process for all Social Work Staff at VA Boston. In this position, the incumbent is an active participant in planning, establishing, and implementing policies and procedures pertaining to Social Work documentation, Huntington House, Primary Care and Home-Based Care, Pre-Admission Testing, Oncology/HIV, Dialysis, and Whole Health. The incumbent develops individual and group goals and objectives as well as monitoring, operating, evaluating, coordinating and overseeing the social work staff in the assigned programs named above. The incumbent assures that all supervisors are aware of and adhere to all current directives of VHA, and meet current JCAHO standards, state licensure standards, and VA-OIG expectations. The incumbent conducts ongoing intensive reviews and appraisals to ensure the accomplishment of objectives and adherence to standards set by governing bodies. Incumbent is an approving official and complies with all the acquisition regulations, both Federal, VA and local to include 8A, small business, Javis Wagner O'Day Act, and mandatory sources. The incumbent accepts additional assignments from the Social Work Chief or from the VA Boston Healthcare System leadership team, including acting for or on behalf of the Social Work Chief. This position is in the Excepted Service. This position is covered by locality-based comparability pay. Travel and relocation expenses are not authorized. Narrative responses to the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) will be required from the selectee in order to proceed with the appointment. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website to verify if that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a master of social work. Licensure. Individuals assigned as Social Work Supervisor must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. English Language Proficiency. Social workers must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j. Grade Determinations/Minimum Qualifications for GS-13 Supervisory Social Worker:
Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must have one year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Experience at that level includes:
(a) Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. (b) Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. (c) Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services. (d) Ability to provide staff training and development. (e) Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the professional knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) listed below for the GS-13 level. (a) Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. (b) Skill in a range of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. (c) Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services by supervised social workers. (d) Ability to delegate authority, manage priorities, coordinate work, and follow up on pending issues to complete duties in an accurate and timely fashion. (e) Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems, develop and implement solutions that result in efficient operations, and use data effectively to manage workload, quality, performance, and productivity within the service. The incumbent must be able to exercise a high degree of emotional and mental discipline at all times in order to continue to carry out duties effectively.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
