Addiction Therapist

The employee is responsible for conducting addiction assessments, creating comprehensive treatment plans and develops a caseload. They work with a multidisciplinary team of staff to serve the program's Veterans making frequent home visits, interfacing with landlords and other providers regarding substance abuse issues that can include crisis intervention and resolution. The incumbent consults to both clients and staff around addictions issues and must be knowledgeable about current treatment trends and standards of practice. The incumbent provides therapeutic, in-depth individual and group therapy, as indicated. The incumbent compiles written histories on patients, concentrating on previous alcohol/drug use and relapse history for use by members of the multidisciplinary treatment team. They develop the appropriate treatment process to help homeless Veterans obtain and retain permanent housing. The incumbent also recommends and implements appropriate substance abuse interventions and connects the program's Veterans to resources tailored to their individual need. The incumbent should have knowledge of and experience working with the Housing First, Harm Reduction, Critical Time Intervention, Stages of Change, Motivational Interviewing, Crisis Intervention and Psychosocial Rehabilitation models. Experience working with homeless veterans with all of these approaches is required in addition to substantial knowledge if addictions resources. Experience:
experience demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. AND Specialized Experience- One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level. Examples of qualifying experience would typically include:
Conducts initial screening, assessment, and triage of patients presenting to the program; Obtains urine toxicology screens for drugs of abuse; Facilitates group and individual therapy and has the skill set to employ evidence-based therapy for substance use which may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Twelve Step Facilitation, and Behavioral Couples Therapy; Participates in program planning and development, making recommendations in program policies and procedures; Collect and submit data for the Performance Improvement (PI) and clinical accuracy review process; Identifies needs and makes referrals to ancillary services outside of the residential program such as family services, housing, vocational counseling, financial and support services; Obtains appropriate consent from the patient, and communicates treatment plans and progress with outside legal authorities; Assesses patient condition, facilitates the referral of patients to a staff psychiatrist for medication evaluation and follow-up; Monitors patient compliance and gives feedback to appropriate members of the treatment team; Recognizes when a patient has acute medical problems and facilitates referral to the appropriate medical clinic or personnel; Serves as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team and works with other professionals to formulate treatment and follow-up plans for each patient. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements:
The physical requirements of this position generally involve a sedentary position in an office and clinic setting with periodic walking and standing. The majority of administrative and clinical duties would not involve physical stress. At times, however, the Addiction Therapist is required to deal with an intoxicated and/or dangerous patient and may involve the use of physical interventions to maintain safety. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
